My Travel Essentials

Wondering what you should bring with you when travelling? I’ve got you! I have designed this list of travel must-haves so you don’t miss anything.

When clicking on the pictures you will get to the site where you can buy the product, making things even easier for you.

1. Backpack

I would always recommend travelling with a backpack and not with a suitcase. You can just walk around, no matter the conditions of the road, and you have your hands free. They also take up less space in hostel rooms. I would recommend choosing one that is not bigger than 50 L.

2. Packing Cubes

Using packing cubes has been a game-changer for me. They help you keep your bag as organized as possible, maximize space, keep your clothes cleaner and less wrinkled and they make it way easier to just grab a piece of clothing quickly.

3. Travel Size Container

While you want to bring full-size containers of certain cosmetics, like sunscreen, you don’t need much of others. Filling those products into a travel-size container will save you room and weight.

4. Laundry Bag

A laundry bag will allow you to store your dirty, smelly clothes away from the clean ones. It will also come in handy when handing in your laundry, as you can simply take it out of your bag and hand it in as is.

5. Padlock

Most hostels provide lockers to lock away your valuables, but you often have to bring your own padlock.

6. Earplugs

Sharing a room with other people is not always quiet. People snore, come into the room after you have already gone to sleep, or get up earlier than you. To make sure you have the best possible sleep to start the next day well rested, always bring earplugs.

7. Travel Towel

Regular towels will take up way too much room in your bag and are too heavy. These travel towels are super lightweight and fast-drying.

8. Refillable Water Bottle

Many hostels offer drinking water for you to fill up your bottle. To reduce waste and always stay hydrated, you should bring a reusable water bottle.

9. Power Bank

Especially on long travel days, you might run out of battery without any option of charging your phone. So having a battery pack with you will come in handy.

10. Travel Adapter

Bringing a travel adapter is crucial, as you won’t be able to charge your electronics otherwise.

11. Birkenstocks

The Birkenstock Arizona EVA is, in my opinion, the perfect travel Sandel. They are comfortable to walk in for several hours; you can get them wet, and they won’t ruin your cute outfits.

12. Hand Sanitizer

You won’t always be able to wash your hands, and in some places, a lot of public toilets don’t have soap, so carrying a small bottle of hand sanitizer is always handy.

13. Sleeping Mask

Especially if you are somebody who needs a dark room to sleep, you should pack a sleeping mask. Hostel rooms are usually dark, but they don’t always have curtains.

14. The Viral Uniqlo Bag

Now I know everybody and their grandma has this bag, but for a good reason. This bag literally fits everything! You can even fit a small water bottle or camera in there, which to me makes this the perfect bag to walk around a new city and explore.

15. Luggage Scale

Now, even if you don’t want to bring this travelling with you, at least using it before leaving will ensure that your bag is not overweight. While the baggage allowance is usually around 20kg and you are carrying your bag, chances are your bag won’t be overweight. However, for your shorter flights during your travels, luggage prices often depend on the weight of your bag. For example there are different prices for 10kg, 15 kg, and 20kg. So it is good to know exactly how much your bag weighs.
